Soroka: Israel’s Iron Dome for Health
Soroka is one of Israel’s largest and most strategic hospitals, located in one of the country’s most diverse areas. The sole major medical center for the entire Negev, it serves over 1 million residents in an area that comprises 60% of Israel’s land. We offer recognized excellence across the entire spectrum of medical care: prevention, diagnosis, research, trauma, genetics and cancer care. Soroka is essential to meeting the medical needs of the Israel Defense Forces, who are currently moving large bases to the Negev. Soroka is a symbol of peaceful coexistence: we provide excellent healthcare to all, regardless of race, religion or politics. Our unique healthcare institution is a true Israeli national treasure.
Soroka’s NICU Project
Over 16,000 babies are delivered per year Soroka’ Labor & Delivery ward. As a result, at any given moment our NICU cares for at least 50 babies, and our nurseries care for 150 newborns. A huge operation by any international standard, our success rate is on par with the finest American hospitals. These tiniest and most fragile patients represent the diverse society of the Negev. Currently, our Neonatal Care building features glass brick ceilings, built before anyone thought of rockets reaching Beer Sheva. Unfortunately this beautiful building is now potentially a dangerous trap and urgently needs to be replaced with one built to withstand rocket and missile attacks.
