Unfortunately, trauma is a part of the Israeli reality. For many Israelis, the lasting efforts of a traumatic episode can be as painful as the incident itself. For children, traumatic episodes can determine the course of their lives.
Fortunately, families in Israel’s South now have help.
The Vivian and Seymour Milstein Family Trauma Recovery Center for Children and Adolescents at Soroka was established to help children cope with and overcome traumatic experiences: Family crises, traffic accidents, severe burns, terrorist attacks.
Our multi-disciplinary team includes a pediatric psychiatrist, rehabilitation psychologist, art therapist, and clinical psychiatric social workers provide thousands of therapy sessions for children, and help them to re-establish a normal childhood. A once distraught family can be happy again. Multiply that one family by hundreds per year and you begin to understand the impact that Soroka is having.
That’s a lot of children who are now sleeping easier, focusing better in school and living happier lives. We’re also sending our team to care for the many children in Sderot who suffer ongoing problems from the many years of missile attacks their community has faced.
